Zwane: Mamelodi Sundowns star’s agent calls for calm as contract talks continue

The accomplished player hopes to win his sixth PSL title with Masandawana next season

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Themba Zwane is set to sign a new deal with the Tshwane giants after helping the club clinch a record 11th PSL title.

This is according to Zwane’s agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane with the current deal of international Bafana Bafana which will expire at the end of this month, but Masandawana has an option to renew for another year.

Mahlakgane is confident that Zwane will soon sign a new deal with the Sundowns, which saw one of their most influential players enter the final 12 months of his contract.

“He signs, which is why we are talking to them for another contract and we only engage with them,” said Mahlakgane. Sowetan.

“People don’t have to worry, he will sign a new contract with the club.”

Zwane has spoken of his ambition to play abroad in the past, but now he wants to stay with the Chloorkop-based Giants where he has been very successful.

The Tembisa-born player has won five PSL titles with the Sundowns and he is now eager to win another league trophy with the ambitious club.

“What I can say is that I love the team and we are still talking. That’s all I can say and the fans can continue to support the team, ”Zwane recently told the media.

“To move forward, I would like to see myself in the team. It feels good to have won five league titles even though I set a goal of six titles which is why I push so hard every season to win the title.

The 31-year-old was instrumental in helping Masandawana win the 2020/21 PSL title and he was nominated for the footballer of the year and league player of the season accolades he won in of the 2019/20 campaign.

However, Zwane was beaten by teammate Peter Shalulile, who won both accolades at the PSL awards ceremony last weekend.

“To be honest when the season started I wanted to go because I spoke to Teko Modise and he told me he felt like I was the one who can win again. That’s why I started stronger, but unfortunately during the season I got injured, ”said Zwane.

“But I was happy to see Peter get it. I think he deserves it. If you check out all of our games it helped us.

“Whenever it was difficult he would put his hand up and say ‘I’ll save the team.’ He has played well for the team all season long.
