Ziyech, Chelsea form collapse ‘no coincidence’, says Lampard

Les Bleus have won only one game since the Morocco international was ruled out with injury and the manager is desperate to get him back

Frank Lampard admits Chelsea Hakim Ziyech is missing amid their recent drop in results.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Monday, seeing Olivier Giroud’s opening goal canceled by an strike from Anwar El Ghazi in the second half.

Chelsea have won just one of their last five Premier League games, having recently been beaten by Everton, Wolves and arsenal. The London team had already played nine games unbeaten in the English top flight.

Their decline coincides with the loss of summer signing Ziyech, who scored one goal and assisted three others in the league before getting injured in early December.

Lampard says his side must find a new source of creativity when the old Ajax star is out of action and looks forward to welcoming the 27-year-old back to the squad.

“It is not a coincidence. We cannot fully rely on him. He has been very effective of us in terms of creation and goals,” said the coach when asked about the meaning of Morocco the absence of international.

“It helped, we were very fluid until he hurt himself. We want him to come back. There is a possibility that he might be fit. [Sunday’s game against] Manchester city if it goes ahead. He is close. “

Despite the disappointing result of his team on Monday, Lampard was happy with his team’s performance and chose Callum Hudson-Odoi for special praise.

“I liked his performance and his passing range in the first half. Some of his moves and touches were great, but we want to see the end product and for him to play one-on-one like at Arsenal,” did he declare.

“This is the level of the best wingers in the Premier League. He has the capabilities, it will be the next step for him.”

He continued: “It’s a draw against a good team. Our performance was good and we deserved to win. We went through a difficult period. We saw the attitude of the team today. The picture is still tight and we stay close. Today I saw some good signs that I like. “

Chelsea will face City at home on January 3, then take on Morecambe in the FA Cup next week.
