York councilor demands that Prince Andrew be stripped of city title after HRH loss – RT World News

English city officials say Andrew is unworthy of continuing in the role of Duke of York

An adviser in York, England has launched a campaign to strip Prince Andrew of his duchy, saying the beleaguered royal is not worthy of such a connection to the ancient city in the north. Andrew was stripped of his RHS style on Thursday.

In a tweet Thursday, York City Council member Darryl Smalley took aim at Prince Andrew on the day the royal lost his honorary military roles and ditched his HRH style. Andrew faces a civil sexual assault case in New York City.

“He is not fit to hold these titles, he is not fit to remain Duke of York.” Our big city deserves better ”, Smalley wrote on Twitter, responding to Buckingham Palace’s announcement about Andrew.

York Central Labor MP Rachael Maskell answered Smalley’s call and claimed it was “Untenable for the Duke of York to hang on to his title one more day” in a tweet.

On Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced that Andrew “Military affiliations and royal patronages” were returned to Queen Elizabeth, noting that he would face his trial in the United States, linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, as a private citizen.

It was reported on Wednesday that recently convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell had given up on her efforts to keep information regarding her criminal behavior with Epstein sealed by the courts.

The lawyer for Epstein’s accuser, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who is bringing the US civil lawsuit against Andrew, had asked that the information be made public.

A judge must now decide whether or not to release material from Giuffre’s 2015 civil lawsuit against Maxwell which refers to eight unnamed men – it is not clear whether one of them is the prince.

If not sealed, the document could shed new light on Andrew’s relationship with Epstein and Maxwell.

Giuffre alleges that she was trafficked by Maxwell to the British Royal Family for sex on multiple occasions when she was 17. The prince denies the allegations.

Earlier this week, the prince failed in his attempt to get the judge to dismiss the lawsuit against him over a technicality.

Andrew insists he has no memory of meeting Giuffre, but a 2001 photo shows the prince with his arm around the 17-year-old in London. Maxwell can be seen standing behind the couple.
