ASAP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, has an arrest history that spans from Europe to the United States. At one point, former President Donald Trump reportedly threatened to start a trade war unless the Grammy-winning rapper was released from a Swedish prison. Most recently, he was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport and police raided his home in Los Angeles.
In April 2022, Rocky was arrested after landing at LAX after vacationing in Barbados with his pregnant and famous girlfriend, Rihanna. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon related to the November 2021 shooting that injured an identified man, according to the LAPD. The stranger and Rocky reportedly got into a fight in the Hollywood area, and things escalated after the rapper fired a handgun before fleeing the scene.
The rapper walked out of jail hours after posting $550,000 bail.
Why was ASAP Rocky arrested in Sweden?
In July 2019, Rocky was arrested in Sweden, charged and convicted of assault with two of his bodyguards. On June 30, the rapper and his security team allegedly assaulted a man named Mustafa Jafari on the streets of Stockholm by punching, kicking and cutting him until he received multiple lacerations and a fractured rib.
In July 2019, then-President Donald Trump called on the Swedish Prime Minister to drop the assault charge against Rocky and allow him to return home.

In addition, 19-year-old Jafari was hit on the back of the head by a bottle, but the judge ruled “it could not be established by whom” and therefore “affected the assessment of the seriousness of the crime”.

Rocky and his team argued during the trial that they were acting in self-defense, but the court disagreed and gave them suspended sentences, meaning they could avoid jail time. and return to the country as long as they do not commit a similar offence. The three men were detained for almost a month and the court did not recommend a new prison sentence. All defendants were ordered to pay 12,500 crowns, or $1,310, to the victim as restitution.

Rocky’s arrest prompted public outcry and calls for a boycott of Sweden from several celebrities and artists, including Justin Bieber, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lala Anthony, Meek Mill and Kris Jenner. The legal situation also led to a heated diplomatic crisis between the United States and Sweden after then-President Donald Trump tweeted his support for Rocky’s release and warned Sweden that it would face up. the consequences if he was not allowed to return home.

Recently, Sweden’s longtime Justice Minister Morgan Johansson revealed that Trump had also threatened to impose economic sanctions on the Nordic country if the charges against Rocky were not dropped, according to the New York Post.
