MJ’s pop culture phenomenon Thriller was released four decades ago and in order to commemorate the record’s anniversary, Thriller is getting a reissue.

When is Michael Jackson’s Thriller 40th Anniversary Release Date?
On November 30, 1982, Michael Jackson released his sixth studio album, Thriller.
The album spawned a record-breaking succession of singles such as Beat It, Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, Human Nature and the Paul McCartney-assisted single The Girl is Mine.
The music video for the title track is one of the most noticed music videos of all time.
Years after its RIAA Certified Diamond status, Thriller’s legacy is still highly recognized by music fans.
On May 16, 2022, it was announced that a special 40-year anniversary version of the album is set to be released towards the end of the year.
The Anniversary Edition will be available as a two-disc set, including another disc full of previously unreleased songs that didn’t make the initial cut on Thriller.

Who Owns Michael Jackson’s Masters?
Following the death of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009, his estate distributed several posthumous projects.
MJ’s estate released footage of what was supposed to be his musical comeback tour, This Is It, months later on October 28.
They also dropped another posthumous project, titled Xscape, in May 2014.

With a variety of post-death productions being distributed, fans were curious to know who owned the master recordings of these releases.
In 2016, MJ’s estate sold their namesake’s recordings to Sony.
The executives said in a press release at the time: “This transaction further allows us to continue our efforts to maximize the value of Michael’s estate for the benefit of his children.”
“It also validates Michael’s foresight and genius for investing in music publishing.”
