Weekend ‘SNL’ update suits Biden era like FDR’s: Stock market woes, threat of war in Europe

“Saturday Night Live” took aim at President Biden over the Russia-Ukraine crisis in his Weekend Update segment this Saturday, joking that Democrats were right about his Franklin Roosevelt-like presidency.

Just like in the early 1930s, “the stock market is crashing and there is a threat of land war in Europe,” observed co-presenter Colin Jost.

Later, Jost said Biden’s assessment that a video call with European allies on the Russia-Ukraine crisis had gone “very, very, very well” worried him, saying people were only using a third “very” than when they were trying to hide something.

Co-anchor Michael Che also fired on liberals who have been calling for 83-year-old Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer to retire so Biden can name a progressive successor.

“‘We thank Judge Breyer for standing up for the rights of every American,’ said liberals who tweeted, “Retire, b—-! “last year,” Che said.

The comedian claimed he could sympathize with Breyer because he gets the same tweets “every Saturday night at this time.”

Che then noted that Biden had promised to appoint a black woman in place of Breyer.

“But I hope it’s not because he wants to sniff out a new type of hair,” he joked, showing a photo of Biden appearing to smell a white woman’s hair.

Bringing Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell into the mix, Che said the Kentucky Republican warned Biden not to outsource his Supreme Court pick to the “radical left,” which the comedian also joked , that’s what McConnell takes when trying to run over stray dogs on the street.

Che also mentioned that Biden told Pennsylvanians the federal government would help rebuild a collapsed bridge the day he visited Pittsburgh to talk about the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which passed in November.

“Whereas the Republicans said the bridge should just lift by its boots,” he claimed.

Jost noted that a recent report indicated that despite Americans feeling financially insecure, last year the US economy grew at its fastest pace since Ronald Reagan’s presidency, joking that Biden even adopted Reagan’s old slogan: “Where am I?”

The show’s cold open also featured actor James Austin Johnson as Biden was told how to counter Russian misinformation on social media by a mean teenage girl.
