We can very well use water without wasting it to create animation and even small biotopes favorable to biodiversity both in the garden and on the terrace or balcony.
Create a Miniature Pond for the Patio
Start by getting containers that match your style. Zinc, wooden or concrete tubs can do the trick. If you want to make a small aquatic biotope, your containers must be able to contain at least 25 cm of water depth. Position them so that they receive about as much sun as shade during the day. If you’re using old wooden tubs, line the bottom with a plastic tarp to make them watertight. Then place aquatic plants in baskets, respecting the required depth. To add a jet or a small fountain, install a kit consisting of a pump and a power supply either from the mains or a solar panel.
Install a small pond in the garden
In the garden, you can create an enchanting little biotope filled with plants and populated by fish that will fascinate young and old alike. However, you will have to remain vigilant: like any water point, even very shallow, it constitutes a danger for the little ones. First dig a hole, the depth of which increases in stages. Three different levels distributed from 10 to 80 cm are enough. Line the bottom with sand, then with a geotextile veil before laying down a tarpaulin which must extend over the edges. Add decorative stones all around. Fill with gravel on the flat parts of the bottom of the basin. You can also buy a pre-made container that you place in the hole.

Before filling the pool, check the horizontality of the bottom with a level. Fill about a third of the basin with water, fill the side gaps with sand and then finish filling the basin. If you want to install fish there, part of its surface must be shaded during the hottest hours of the day. To do this, plant some tall ornamental grasses on the south side of the pond.
