Washington Post editorial board hails Biden as a ‘tremendous upgrade’ to Trump

The Washington Post on Tuesday praised President Joe Biden for restoring what he described as “a sense of dignity” to the presidential clemency process.

In an op-ed, the newspaper’s board offered a damning contrast between Biden’s “care to determine who should receive clemency” and former President Donald Trump’s pardons to “personal associates convicted or tried for serious offenses”, those who have ties to the White House or who had been defended by celebrities.

It shows “what a tremendous upgrade” Biden is from Trump, he said.

The headline also riffed on the “upgrade” theme, titled “Biden once again shows why he’s a huge upgrade from Trump.”

Trump “made the presidential clemency power seem arbitrary and unchecked,” the Post’s board concluded, saying Biden “was right to restore a sense of dignity and fairness to its exercise.”
