Warriors’ Steve Kerr Responds to Kyle Rittenhouse Verdict: “This is America”

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said what many thought after a jury acquitted Kyle Rittenhouse of all charges on Friday.

“This is America,” Kerr said Friday before his team played against the Pistons. “We are taking a dangerous path.

“It was not a shocking verdict, but a verdict that poses a great risk for the future if we continue down this path. … States determining that people can simply carry – even minors – weapons of war, ”Kerr also said.

Rittenhouse, 18, shot dead two men and injured another in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last summer during protests against police brutality. A predominantly all-white jury on Friday ruled Rittenhouse “not guilty” and found him to be a scared teenager who defended himself instead of a vigilante.

Rittenhouse, a native of Antioch, Ill., Crossed the state border in August 2020, recovered an AR-style semi-automatic weapon he recently purchased and, then 17, s’ went to the protests in Kenosha. after a black man, Jacob Blake, was shot by police and left partially paralyzed.

“What concerns me the most are the gun laws in this country,” Kerr said. “The fact that we apparently agree with a teenager’s right to take an AR-15 into an area where there is civil unrest. It is really scary and disturbing. But that’s where we are with gun laws.

“That’s why we need to put in place safer gun laws. To protect us, to protect each other.
