Buyers reported having problems purchasing products from Walmart.com during the company’s Black Friday sales event.

Downdetector, the Ookla Company’s metric monitoring company for tracking site outages, received more than 300 outage reports on Walmart.com around 3:30 p.m. EST. The website appeared to be working again around 4:30 p.m.

Some users were temporarily unable to add all items to their cart. Others said items would show up as “temporarily out of stock” when users attempted to make purchases.

Insider was unable to add multiple food, electronics, or children’s items to a cart on Walmart.com around 4 p.m. EST.

Walmart has traditionally offered heavily discounted Black Friday prices on electronics, food, and clothing. Although shoppers in the past have camped outside the retailer to score Black Friday deals, Walmart is seeing fewer in-store shoppers this year in some locations, according to Insider’s Mary Meisenzahl and other reports.

Many big box retailers received fewer crowds during Black Friday, via video and photo coverage in the field.

Analysts had warned that product shortages resulting from the current supply chain crisis would lead to fewer products on the shelves. Some stores were offering fewer discounts to make up for shipping delays: Adobe’s planned holiday discounts ranged from 5% to 25%, compared to an average of 10 to 30% in previous years.

Despite supply chain issues, Walmart was offering some of the cheapest prices on items in most categories compared to its competitors during the holiday season, behind Amazon.

Walmart was not immediately available for comment.

This is a developing story.
