On Wednesday afternoon, nine people were arrested in the Pontanézen district, following a police check targeting a deal point, which gave rise to fairly rare scenes of urban violence in broad daylight.

This small group of eight young men (including three minors) had fled on sight of the officials and had taken refuge in an apartment in the rue Daumier, where they had kidnapped a mother and her two children.

At the same time, the police officers were the target of mortar fire at the foot of the building: two police officers were injured during these clashes, one in the leg by fireworks mortar fire, the other another in the head, a scooter having been thrown in his face.

The eight individuals will finally be arrested, as well as a ninth resident of the district who would have made death threats against a police officer on the sidelines of the first arrests.

This Friday, five of the eight people who had fled the police, aged 18 to 31, found themselves before the Brest court, under the immediate appearance regime. They had to answer for home invasion, kidnapping, damage to property and violence in meetings. At the end of the hearings, the case was adjourned to February 25. Three of the five defendants were placed in pre-trial detention, the other two being subject to judicial review.
