Young people in Mekele, the regional capital of Tigray, took part in a parade for peace and many hoped that the ceasefire agreed between the Ethiopian government and their region could mean that they could soon return to school .
Educational institutions and other services have been closed for more than two years in Tigray since fighting broke out in 2020.
The “Peace For All” Carnival in Mekele was organized by the Tigray Development Association (TDA) in collaboration with the locally renowned Tigray Circus.
Among the 600 participants who marched through the city, led by a police band, were around 200 children performing circus skills and martial arts.
