Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Khartoum on Saturday, after nine people were killed in protests against the country’s ruling generals on Thursday.
Protesters later moved to a sit-in area, which began last Thursday evening outside al-Jawda hospital where injured protesters are still being treated.
The United States and other members of the international community have condemned the violence in the East African country, which has been rocked by near-weekly protests since an October 25 coup shattered its fragile transition to democracy.
Sudanese military authorities have responded to the protests with a deadly crackdown, which has so far killed 113 people, including 18 children.
Photographs of the dead have been posted online, in some cases with the aim of identifying them.
The Sudanese Doctors Committee, a medical group that monitors victims of protests, said security forces shot dead nine people, including a child, in or near Khartoum during Thursday’s rallies.
Thursday’s protests coincided with widespread internet disruptions.
