“Very, very worrying” – POLITICO

The corruption scandal currently rocking the European Parliament is “very, very worrying”, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Monday morning.
Belgian prosecutors on Sunday charged European Parliament Vice-President Eva Kaili and three others with corruption in a major investigation into an alleged campaign of illicit influence by Qatar. As part of the investigation, the home of Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella was searched on Saturday evening.
Brussels investigators suspect Qatar of using money and gifts to influence economic and political decisions in parliament.
Borrell said that, speaking as a former president of the European Parliament, the news was “very, very worrying”.
“We are facing events, facts that certainly worry me,” he added, while asking that the judicial process be respected.
