US Trade Representative discusses China’s actions against US companies with Chinese minister


WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai in a meeting with Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao on Friday raised concerns about China’s recent actions against U.S. companies operating in the country, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) said on Friday.

“Ambassador Tai underscored the need to address the critical imbalances caused by China’s non-market, state-led approach to economics and trade policy. She also raised concerns about the PRC. [People’s Republic of China] action taken against U.S. companies operating there,” the USTR said in a press release.

Tai, who met Wang on the sidelines of an APEC ministers’ meeting in Detroit, shared the progress made so far by Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) partners and outlined the priorities of the United States. United for the remainder of its APEC host year, the release said.

She also spoke about the importance of the U.S.-China trade relationship in the global economy and the need for both sides to continue to engage, the statement added.
