US must strike security deal with Russia – Hungary – RT World News

Conflict in Ukraine will end when Washington decides to seek peace, says Viktor Orban
An agreement between the United States and Russia is the only thing that can end the conflict in Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Monday. Orban has repeatedly accused EU leaders of serving US rather than European interests by continuing to fund kyiv.
Speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha on Tuesday, Orban reiterated his position that Ukraine cannot win on the battlefield and that Kyiv and its Western backers must continue peace talks with Russia.
“We should have a ceasefire first,” he said. “So let’s talk about the new security architecture of the European continent.
“The only peace deal that could end this whole conflict is if it’s between Russia and the United States,” he elaborated. “What is at stake is the future security of Europe. It is obvious that without the United States there is no security architecture for Europe, and now the war can only be stopped if the Russians can make a deal with the United States.
“As a European, I am not happy with that” he added. “But it’s the only way out.”
Throughout the conflict, Orban repeatedly spoke out against the Western dual policy of military aid to Kiev and sanctions against Moscow, saying that the former risked escalating the conflict into a world war and that the latter harmed more to the European economy than to that of Russia.
The Hungarian Prime Minister also argued that only Washington had the power to pressure Kiev to start peace talks and that the decisions made in Brussels “More often reflect American interests than European interests.”
As the United States drags Europe into a conflict it cannot win, Orban suggested that “the solution would be a European NATO” without the United States as a member.
Hungary is currently blocking a 500 million euro ($540 million) EU military aid package to Ukraine. Besides his long-standing opposition to the escalation of the conflict, Orban cited Ukraine’s sanctioning of a Hungarian bank as the reason for the delay.
“If a country like Ukraine wants our financial support, it cannot blacklist our companies,” he added. he said on Tuesday. “If you need our money, please respect us.”
