“Your arrangement with Hunter Biden raises serious ethical issues and calls into question the Biden family once again selling access and influence. by selling his works of art, the identity of the buyers remains unknown and you seem to be the sole depositary of these lucrative transactions,” Comer said in a letter to the namesake gallery Georges Berges. The request is part of the Oversight Committee’s investigation into whether Biden and his family engaged in foreign or domestic influence-peddling schemes, the letter said. Republicans on the panel made a similar demand in the last Congress, despite holding a minority in the House at the time. The committee is also asking Berges to appear for a transcribed interview, the letter says. Hunter Biden’s latest artwork sells for between $55,000 and $225,000, the letter says, citing gallery advertisements. Comer also released a statement on Wednesday questioning why anyone would pay top dollar for “arguably worthless” art, adding that Hunter Biden is “not Pablo Picasso.” Foreign adversaries of the United States, including China, have used fake art sales to launder money and evade sanctions, Comer said in the statement. The committee is asking Berges to produce information related to communications with the White House and Hunter Biden, the pricing of Biden’s artwork, and buyers of the artwork, the letter said. The committee expects Berges to produce the requested information no later than February 8 and to schedule the interview by February 15, the letter adds.
