WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The United States Department of Defense announced that it has awarded Lockheed Martin a $77.4 million contract to purchase 54 precision missiles by September 2025.
“Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, Grand Prairie, Texas, received $77,420,000 [contract]… for the purchase of 54 [precision strike missiles]“, announced Monday the Ministry of Defense.
Precision Strike Missiles are tactical ballistic missiles being developed to replace the current Army Tactical Surface-to-Surface Missile Systems (ATACMS). The Defense Ministry has said it is reluctant to supply Ukraine with long-range missiles from US stockpiles, fearing Russia views them as particularly escalating.
Lockheed Martin is expected to complete work on the contract by September 30, 2025, the Department of Defense added.
