Established in 1999, the Group of 20 – also known as the G20 – is an informal gathering of heads of state from the world’s 20 largest economies. While the annual summit has traditionally focused on economic cooperation, the agenda has since broadened to include discussions on how to respond to climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic and, more recently, to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
