Ukraine’s president visits Kherson as he continues his tour of war-torn cities

Ukraine’s president made his third visit in two days to regions that have been hit hard by Russia’s illegal invasion.
After visiting Kharkiv on Wednesday, Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Kherson on Thursday.
The eastern town is close to the frontline and was taken by Russian forces early in the war, but Ukrainian troops returned fire and pushed the occupiers back late last year.
During his visit, the Ukrainian President spoke with residents about the restoration of electricity and water in the region. He also inspected a bunker with sleeping quarters where people could take shelter.
The presidential office said Zelenskyy also stopped at the village of Posad-Pokrovs’ke, halfway between the cities of Kherson and Mykolaiv, where he saw repairs to buildings and a power station.
The Dnieper River now marks the front line in the still partially occupied region.
Kyiv troops recaptured Kharkiv from the Russians last September as part of the same months-long counteroffensive that recaptured Kherson.
Zelenskyy’s visits to the region come as improving weather sets the stage for possible new offensives from both sides.
