Ukraine war latest: Vladimir Putin makes surprise trip to Crimea as arrest warrant issued

Arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin for “war crimes” in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise last-minute visit to a children’s center in Crimea on the anniversary of the region’s annexation by the Kremlin.
Mr Putin visited an art school and a children’s center on Saturday, a day after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for the Russian leader, charging him with war crimes.
The court specifically charged him on Friday with being personally responsible for the abduction of Ukrainian children during Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country, which began nearly 13 months ago.
Responding to the ICC ruling, US President Joe Biden said Mr Putin had “clearly committed war crimes”. He added: “I think it’s justified. But the question is – it’s not recognized internationally by us either. But I think that makes a very strong point.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia does not recognize the ICC and considers its decisions “legally void”. Russia annexed Crimea to Ukraine in 2014, a move most countries around the world considered illegal.
