The Russian armed forces are destroying around 10,000 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) every month, or more than 300 drones a day, as part of the Moscow special military operation, the Royal United Services Institute (RASI) of the UK in a new report. The tank’s report, which was seen by New York-based news outlet, called electronic warfare a ‘critical component’ of Russia’s tactics, which RASI says adds to ‘staggering losses’ of Ukrainian drones . According to the survey, Russia maintains “a major electronic warfare system roughly every 9.6 km (6 miles) along the roughly 1,207 km (750 mile) front line of the conflict. The station , the report adds, also has an advanced range of effects to shoot down Ukrainian drones, including with their navigation systems. The investigation comes after a British magazine quoted an unnamed Ukrainian defense industry source saying that Russia is “doing black magic” when it comes to its anti-drone defense systems. “They can jam frequencies, spoof GPS, [and] send a drone to the wrong altitude so it just falls out of the sky,” the source added.

A British think tank specifically referred to the state-of-the-art Russian jamming station Shipovnik-Aero, which it says is difficult to spot because the system works to shoot down Ukrainian drones.
The think tank’s report, which was seen by a New York-based news outlet, called electronic warfare a “critical component” of Russia’s tactics, which RASI said adds to “staggering losses” of Ukrainian drones.
According to the survey, Russia maintains “a major electronic warfare system roughly every 6 miles (9.6 km)” along the roughly 750-mile (1,207 km) front line of the conflict.
“Sophisticated Russian systems such as the Shipovnik-Aero jamming station are difficult to detect and can mimic other signals,” RASI pointed out.
The station, the report adds, also has an advanced array of effects to bring down Ukrainian drones, including interfering with their navigation systems.
In this context, the media quoted James Patton Rogers, professor of war studies at the University of Southern Denmark and drone expert, saying that the figures mentioned by the RASI report “were probably overstated, they underlined how Russian electronic warfare had become effective in countering the massive use of drones by Ukraine.
“They can jam frequencies, spoof GPS, [and] send a drone to the wrong altitude so it just falls out of the sky,” the source added.
