Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of bombing a large nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine currently under Russian control.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces fired twice at the facility, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.
The bombing amounted to “an open and shameless crime, an act of terror”, Zelenskyy said. He also called for sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry.
The Russian Defense Ministry accused Kyiv of carrying out three artillery strikes in the area of the plant, saying it had committed “acts of nuclear terrorism”.
Earlier this week, Rafael Grossi, the head of the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency, told the AP that the plant was “completely out of control” and the situation was becoming more unstable every day. . He appealed to Moscow and Kyiv to urgently allow experts to visit the plant and stabilize the situation.
