MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The British government intends to increase the country’s defense budget to 100 billion pounds ($108.5 billion) by the end of 2030, the British secretary told Sunday. Defense, Ben Wallace.
“Without the change, we were headed for less than 2% [of defense spending of GDP]. But on current forecasts, that’s around a £100 billion defense budget in 2029-30. We are currently on £48bn. So that’s the difference. In eight years, that’s a huge sum,” Wallace told the Telegraph.
Wallace added that the department plans to allocate additional funds for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.
According to him, Truss intends to keep his campaign promise to increase defense spending to 3% of GDP.
