UK airports shut down due to heavy snowfall and fog

As snow fell heavily around the London area, Stansted Airport was forced to cancel ALL flights due to wintry conditions. A Gatwick spokesperson said the delays and cancellations were necessary for health and safety reasons and to take time to de-ice planes.
Travelers at Heathrow and Gatwick also saw more than 50 flights cancelled, due to fog and ice on the runway. The airlines apologized to customers and offered them food and hotel vouchers.
Roads and rail services were also heavily disrupted. A yellow weather warning has been put in place for Scotland, London and the South West of England due to heavy snowfall.
