UFC fighter Lerone Murphy hospitalized as car hits his bike nine years after surviving shot in the face


UFC featherweight fighter Lerone Murphy has ended up in hospital after sustaining a ‘nasty head injury’ following a recent cycling accident.

The Manchester native posted a photo from his hospital bed and explained that a careless driver knocked him off his bike, causing him a serious head injury.

Murphy says he is lucky to be alive after waiting nearly 45 minutes for emergency services to arrive, while bleeding from his head.

“Ffs can’t take a break,” Murphy wrote on Instagram. “Another near death experience. Yesterday while cycling an oncoming car turned right without looking and we collided at high speed. Which caused a nasty head injury. The ambulance took 45 minutes to arrive, which almost made me bleed. I am still breathing here for a greater purpose clearly.

“The Miracle” earned his nickname on May 25, 2013, when he was shot multiple times in broad daylight. Aged just 21 at the time, Murphy was rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary with gunshot wounds to his neck and chin.

After his first near-death experience, Murphy made a conscious decision to change his life for the better and began training in mixed martial arts.

‘The Miracle’ has competed in some of MMA’s biggest events after turning his life around


After six months at the famous All Powers Gym in Stockport, he had his first amateur fight and was now ready to dedicate his life to the sport.

Murphy is undefeated in his professional MMA career and boasts an 11-0-1 record. The 30-year-old joined the UFC in 2019 and has won three straight since his draw against teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov. Zubaira Tukhugov during her promotional debut.

The British prospect was supposed to face Nate Landwehr in March on Curtis Blaydes’ undercard against Chris Daukaus, but was kicked out of the fight for undisclosed reasons.

It is not yet clear how long Murphy’s final brush with death will keep him out of action.
