Two folks ended up seriously hurt Saturday as a driver plowed into a Delight parade in what the Fort Lauderdale mayor is calling a “terrorist assault against the LGBT community.”
The incident occurred for the duration of the Stonewall Satisfaction Parade in Wilton Manors, Florida, a neighborhood about 10 miles north of Fort Lauderdale. Law enforcement have not verified the standing of the victims, but WPLG stories the two are in critical ailment.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, who was at the event, explained the times main up to the incident to WPLG Regional 10 News.
“What we witnessed was, as we have been commencing to assemble the parade, I was strolling with Congressman Ted Deutch, and the parade experienced just begun, and we observed people lining up, prepared to shift, and all the sudden this white pickup truck dashed proper by the crowd, hardly lacking Congresswoman [Debbie] Wasserman-Schultz’ car or truck, by inches, and just … smashed by means of a gate, smashed into a landscaping business, and he strike two individuals,” Trantalis told WPLG.
Trantalis claimed it was “hardly an accident,” but law enforcement have yet to confirm no matter if it was deliberate. Both equally Trantalis and a reporter from WPLG who witnessed the incident mentioned the driver had lined up together with other parade floats prior to hitting the gas and driving into spectators.
The driver is in custody, in accordance to WPLG.
Wilton Manors law enforcement referred to the Fort Lauderdale Police Office for remark. Fort Lauderdale law enforcement could not be reached.
Wilton Manors police verified on Twitter that the parade was canceled, while other activities would proceed.
