WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – A road accident on a highway partly flooded by heavy rain believed to be linked to Hurricane Ida has left two dead and 10 injured in the US state of Mississippi, CNN reported on August 31 , citing officials.

Seven cars fell into a gigantic hole that emerged from the washout on Monday night.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in my 23 years of law enforcement,” Mississippi Highway Patrol Officer Cal Robertson told CNN.

Hurricane Ida struck neighboring Louisiana as a Category 4 storm before weakening to Category 1 as it crossed the Gulf Coast of Mexico.
