SAN DIEGO – The Twins placed right fielder Max Kepler and first baseman Miguel Sano on the 10-day disabled list on Saturday,
Kepler hasn’t played since being hit in the right foot by a pitch last Sunday in Detroit. He broke a little toe and the Twins were waiting to see if he would be able to avoid a pass on the IL.
Sano suffers from an inflammation of the left knee. He was just activated on Monday from the 60-day injured list following surgery on his left knee. But he went 0-for-6 in three games, with four strikeouts, including three in Friday night’s 10-1 loss to the Padres.
The Twins called up St. Paul Class AAA outfielder Mark Contreras and infielder Tim Beckham. Contreras has played six games for the Twins this season. Beckham, a 2008 first-round pick who played 472 major league games, will make his debut for the Twins. To make room on the 40-man roster for Beckham, the Twins moved right-hander Bailey Ober to the 60-day disabled list.
