Tuesday horse racing betting tips: Picks for Brighton and Stratford

[ad_1]

Famed journalist and broadcaster Ed Quigley, aka ‘Longshot Ted’, scored a winning double on Saturday and shares his best bets ahead of Tuesday’s action.

Ted’s bets for Tuesday, July 4:

  • Brighton 2.25 – Speed Of Sound – bet with tote
  • Brighton 2.57 – Lucidity – bet with William Hill
  • Stratford 7.10 – Prince of the Sea – bet with BetVictor
  • Stratford 8.10 – Downhill line– bet with bet365

Brighton 2.25 – Speed Of Sound

SPEED OF SOUND had been in the doldrums lately, until an improved effort on 7f on this site last time. He rallied well inside the closing stages, but he feels a return to the winners’ enclosure is not far away and will benefit from the 1m drop. In fact, the 6-year-old’s last win on grass came on course and distance, so he deserves a lot of respect on this journey.

It’s versatile when it comes to the ground, but the likelihood of fast underfoot conditions won’t be a problem if they materialize. From a BHA mark of 52, he is now 1 pound lighter than the last time he was in the winner’s enclosure, so he appears to be on a high. Christian Howarth takes over claiming 5 pounds, and combined they appear to have major claims for the Alice Haynes stable.

Brighton 2.57 – Lucidity

This is the journey stage here for LUCIDITY, a filly that seems to be well suited to this transition to 10f. She showed improved form over the extended 1m at Nottingham last time out on her Handicap debut, giving every indication that there will be plenty more to come once this filly has undergone a thorough endurance test.

It’s also worth noting that the form of the Nottingham race is an absolute treat – many winners have flown away from this race and so Ed Dunlop’s team might well feel delighted to pick up a pound from the Handicapper on their backs of this effort. Neil Callan takes Zoffany’s daughter who can take her form to new levels here.

Stratford 7.10 – Prince of the Sea

Alex Hales has his channel in great shape right now, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see this 7-year-old SEA PRINCE return to the winners’ enclosure here. The gelding destroyed the field over course and distance last summer on his only previous visit to this track and should really benefit from a return to this venue. A runner-up on his seasonal reappearance at Southwell, this run should set him up perfectly for that, and with a 2lb mark down he looks like he has every chance here. The underfoot conditions should be perfect for him, and he’s the one to beat in my opinion with Harry Bannister circling the son of Born To Sea.

Stratford 8.10 – Downhill line

LINE OF DESCENT took down the pitch at Southwell last time out, and if arriving in the same vein of form could still stop on pain of a penalty. The 5-year-old is something of a progressive who has won three of his last four starts and is clearly going from strength to strength for Warren Greatrex’s rejuvenated side. He’s a bold, positive jumper who could take a bit of a step back given the way he attacks his fences. The excellent Sean Bowen is on board, and this former course and distance winner seems to have major claims once again. Good terrain and flat tracks really seem to fit, so it looks like a major player.

Don’t forget Ed will be back on Saturday as he foreshadows a blockbuster day of action at Sandown on Eclipse Day at Esher’s site.
