Tucker Carlson struck a snide tone on Tuesday night to downplay the U.S. Capitol riot on the three-month anniversary of the lethal insurrection.
The Fox News character attempted to spin the narrative on the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump — who were incited by the then-president ― as just “a mob of older men and women from unfashionable zip codes” protesting (baseless) claims of mass voter fraud in the 2020 election.
Carlson’s characterization of the violence starkly contrasted with films that have due to the fact emerged from the riot, in which 5 people today died. Trump supporters were being caught on digicam screaming, “Hang Mike Pence!” and stalked the halls of Congress searching progressive lawmakers.
“For people of you who are not superior at dates or do not have calendars, this is the working day that we pause to keep in mind the white supremacist QAnon insurrection, that arrived so really near to toppling our government and ending this democracy forever,” Carlson sarcastically snarked on Tuesday.
“You saw what occurred. It was carried dwell on television, every single gruesome instant,” Carlson snidely ongoing. “A mob of older people today from unfashionable zip codes in some way manufactured it all the way to Washington, D.C., probably by bus. They wandered freely by means of the Capitol, like it was their creating or a thing. They did not have guns, but a large amount of them experienced very risky suggestions.”
“They talked about the Structure, and some thing termed their rights. Some of them designed brazenly seditious claims,” he included. “They insisted, for case in point, that the final election was not fully truthful. The complete thing was terrifying, and then, as you have been explained to so very often, they dedicated unspeakable functions of violence.”
Critics ended up swift to phone Carlson out around his coverage of the anniversary:
