Donald Trump launched another crisis on Monday over the investigation into the Jan.6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, in which his supporters tried to stop the certification of the 2020 election and keep him in power.

Trump lambasted Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Senior director of Trump’s first impeachment, calling him “sneaky” and demanded that the “partisan” committee investigating the riot “stop immediately.” The committee has seven Democrats and two Republicans and is not partisan, despite Trump’s complaints.

Trump also made a curious complaint given his own position on the events of January 6, writing:

“What happened on Capitol Hill would never have happened if the officials were doing their job and looking at the intelligence. They abandoned the officers in the field, just as Biden abandoned the Americans in Afghanistan. Instead of holding bad leaders to account, Democrats go after innocent employees and attack the Constitution. “

Schiff was quick to hit back on Twitter, with a specific headline for Trump that those around the former president never use:

As president at the time, Trump was indeed one of the “officials”. Although a bipartisan Senate report found multiple failures with many blame, some were the fault of federal agencies under Trump.

“Neither the FBI nor the DHS found credible online publications calling for violence on Capitol Hill,” the report said.

Although Homeland Security filed at least 15 documents on threats of unrelated domestic extremism before the attack, the department did not file anything on its intelligence on ongoing plans for the assault on Capitol Hill.

Trump was also in charge in another much more direct way. He spent months churning out false statements about the election, and on Jan.6 he cheered the crowd on and sent them to Capitol Hill as Congress convened to certify the election results.
