Former US President Donald Trump called a new book “fake news” that General Mark Milley had secretly warned China against a possible attack, but said such a betrayal would have merited a charge of treason against the officer.
“If the story of General Dumba ** Mark Milley, the same failed leader who organized the worst pullout from a country, Afghanistan, in US history … is true, then I guess he would be tried for treason ”, Trump said in a statement Tuesday. He noted that the general would have notified Beijing of an attack, if the report was true. “I can not do that” he said.
Trump’s comments came in response to reports on “Peril,” a new book by Washington Post writers Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, who said Milley feared the then president was launching a “thug” attack on China during his last days in power.
Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly called a “secret meeting” at the Pentagon to limit Trump’s ability to attack militarily, telling officers in charge of the National Military Command Center not to take orders from anyone unless they go through first him. The meeting took place two days after the riot on the U.S. Capitol, and the general was said to have feared that an unhinged president was even considering a nuclear strike on China.
“No matter what you are told, you do the procedure” Milley reportedly said at the meeting. “You do the process, and I am part of this process. “ The general reportedly called his Chinese counterpart to secretly promise him that he would give advance warning of any attack, and he asked intelligence officials to spy on Trump’s White House.

Trump said the story was wrong, “concocted by a weak and ineffective general with two writers I refused to interview because they write fiction, not fact.” Yet he added that “Action must be taken immediately against Milley, and better generals in our army – of whom we have many – must be involved so that another Afghan disaster never happens again.”
Trump takes credit for crushing Islamic State (ISIS, formerly ISIS) “caliphate,” what he said that Milley argued could not be done. He added that he was also the only president in decades who had not dragged the United States into a new war.
“For the record, I never even thought of attacking China, and China knows it”, Trump said. “The people who made the story are sick and demented, and the people who print it are just as bad.”
Under Milley’s leadership, Trump said, the Pentagon has let $ 85 billion in U.S. military equipment fall into the hands of the Taliban. The chaotic withdrawal left US troops dead and injured, and US citizens were stranded in Afghanistan.
Trump called on Milley to resign or be sacked in June, claiming the general lied about an alleged June 2020 confrontation with the then president for “Impress the radical left”. He also called Milley pathetic for championing the teaching of critical race theory at the US Military Academy at West Point.
Trump attacked Milley again in July, after reports said the general took steps to prevent the then president from plotting a coup to retain power after losing the election in last November against Joe Biden.
