On August 26, Kanhayalal Bheel, a tribal man from a central Indian state, was severely beaten by eight people in a minor traffic accident. They tied him to the back of a vehicle and dragged him some distance. Having suffered serious injuries, he died in hospital the next day.

Calling Bollywood celebrities and other public figures “hypocrites”, a number of netizens criticized them for remaining silent on the lynching of a tribal man in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on August 26 .

As a video clip of the brutal incident went viral on social media, people felt shocked and outraged by what happened last Thursday in the Neemuch district to a man named Kanhayalal Bheel. Although he died on Friday, people only learned of the incident on Saturday when a friend of his lodged a complaint with the police and six people were arrested.

With #TribalLivesMatter, netizens have sparked an uproar on social media, asking people to stand up for justice for Bheel.

Comparing the death of George Floyd, an African-American man who was murdered by a police officer during an arrest, some netizens recalled how many Indian celebrities have expressed their anger and demanded justice for Floyd.

Yet many Indian internet users have wondered why the same celebrities had not bothered to report the murder of a person in their own country.
