Danjuma had agreed to join crisis club Everton but Spurs hijacked that deal for the Villarreal striker, who will bolster Antonio Conte’s attacking options. The deal includes an option for Spurs to buy the 25-year-old this summer.
The Dutch international, who was not selected for the World Cup in Qatar, underwent a medical yesterday and will replace Lucas Moura in Conte’s squad.
Everton are said to be furious after being edged out by the 11th hour move for Danjuma. The winger had a medical at Everton last weekend and even conducted media interviews before moving to Goodison Park.
It’s unclear whether Frank Lampard’s sacking has caused Danjuma to change his mind, but he refused to send in his FA registration before he was due to train at Everton yesterday.
Instead, he traveled to London to agree a move to Spurs as cover for Lucas, who has a hamstring injury and could leave this month.
Danjuma’s arrival could also mean Spurs clear Bryan Gil out on loan this month with La Liga clubs showing interest in him.
Danjuma is the first January signing for Spurs, and the club are keen to further strengthen the squad before the transfer window closes next Tuesday.
Club officials were holding a series of crucial talks today over the transfer of Sporting right-back Pedro Porro.
Spurs are hoping to secure a deal for the 23-year-old, but Sporting are holding to their £39.5million release clause.
