Thomas Tuchel was unimpressed with the referee’s behavior after ‘laughing and smiling’ with Carlo Ancelotti.
In an incredible Champions League game at the Santiago Bernabeu, Chelsea needed to win 3-0 to qualify but failed in the closing stages of the encounter.
Although it was a tall order, goals from Mason Mount, Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner gave the Blues the three needed goals.
But sadly, their efforts were in vain as they lost the draw 5-4 on aggregate despite winning 3-2 in the second leg.
Rodrygo scored the first for the 13-time winner to put the game back in balance, and as he did in the first encounter, Karim Benzema scored again, but this time with the goal to send Los Blancos into the last four.
Led 3-0, ten minutes from the end, the Blues should have seen the game over.
However, the former champions were unable to do so and will now focus on winning Crystal Palace in their FA Cup semi-final.
Speaking after the match, Thomas Tuchel gave his opinion and was particularly unhappy with the behavior of the full-time referee in which he was ‘laughing and smiling’ with Carlo Ancelotti.

“Disappointed that the referee had a good time with my colleague, Carlo Ancelotti,” said the Blues coach.
“I know Carlo is a gentleman and a nice guy, but when I wanted to go and say thank you for the game I saw him laughing and smiling and laughing hard with the opponent’s coach.
“I think it’s a very bad time to do this after the final whistle and 126 minutes, and a team gives their hearts and fights to the very last drop, and you go as a coach and see the referee smile and laugh with the other coach.
“I think it’s very, very bad timing, and I told him that.”
As for the game itself, the former Paris Saint-Germain manager said how proud he was of his players but also lamented the mistakes made.
“We are very disappointed, and we are very proud at the same time,” added Tuchel.
“We played a fantastic game, we scored four goals [one of them from Marcos Alonso which was disallowed]we had great chances to score even more, but we were unlucky, that’s why we are disappointed.
“We were beaten by pure individual quality and conversion, the offensive conversion of our mistakes, unfortunately we made two mistakes after the ball wins, the most crucial moment in the games against Real Madrid.
“In the end we were unlucky, we deserved to go through after this performance and after this game today, but it wasn’t meant to be.
“These are the kind of defeats we can digest and swallow because we left nothing to regret,” the 48-year-old added to BT Sport.
“We left everything, we played what we wanted to play, we showed the quality and the character that this team has.
“We deserved to go through, but it wasn’t supposed to be today, we were just unlucky.
“Credit to the players, it’s not easy to come here, you have to score, you have to win, and do it on the full 90 minutes, just unlucky not to go through, we deserved it.
“I didn’t see the goal that was disallowed, but I’m very, very disappointed that the referee didn’t check it for himself, absolutely disappointed.
“Like I said, there’s nothing to regret, we had a huge deficit to make up because we made some big mistakes in the first leg.
“And unfortunately today too, both goals were due to big mistakes on our part in the preparation.
“They took advantage of mistakes with individual qualities, and that was enough because on both sets we made too many of those big mistakes.”
Centre-back Rudiger echoed his coach’s words, pointing out the mistakes but saying how proud he was of his teammates.
“The good thing is that we didn’t give up, not many teams can dominate them like we did,”
“But, the big but, is that on both legs like we do, you get punished.
“That was the game plan, finding our number 10s, with Ruben and Mason, between Casemiro, to find the space, we found it and we scored the goal, and we controlled the game, we didn’t didn’t panic.
“In the second half we scored goals and did everything we could, but as I said in the home and away matches, if you make those kinds of mistakes you get punished.
“It was a do-or-die for us, I think everyone before the game we would win 3-0, but then the individual class was revealed with Modric and Benzema, now we are here.”
