Thomas Tuchel impersonates Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp as Chelsea boss complains about Stamford Bridge ground after big loss to Arsenal

There were shades of Jurgen Klopp in Thomas Tuchel’s post-match reaction with the Chelsea boss lamenting the state of the Stamford Bridge pitch following their loss to Arsenal.

It was a bad night at the office for the Blues, who suffered a 4-2 home defeat to the Gunners in the Champions League.

Chelsea’s defense was a comedy of errors

Tuchel admitted too many individual errors were made by his players, with Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah taking advantage of Chelsea’s dismal defense for his two goals.

Meanwhile, the fourth from the opposing team suffered the penalty from Bukayo Saka after being tackled to the ground in the box by Cesar Azpilicueta.

The German said after the game: “It was a wild game in the first half with a good result…

“The number of mistakes is just too high and the number of goals we allow from dramatic mistakes that lead directly to big chances is far too high in the last games.”

However, Tuchel also had a problem with playing conditions, providing defense for Andreas Christensen, whose sloppy backpass led to Arsenal’s opener, which was scored by Nketiah.

Tuchel added: “The pitch is difficult to play here. It might sound like an excuse, but it’s very, very difficult terrain we have here.

Tuchel was inspired by Klopp’s book

“It’s not in our favor. The ball bounces very awkwardly past Andreas when he wants to play that ball.

“But still, we made the same mistake against Real Madrid which cost us our place in the next round of the Champions League.”

The complaints will resemble the rebukes Liverpool boss Klopp has had before, after complaining about the state of a pitch, among other things, after poor results for his team.

However, Tuchel admitted that – despite his problems with the playing surface – it was his players’ mistakes that cost the Blues against Arsenal.

The boss also admitted he was at fault for his team selection, after making four changes to the squad that beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in the FA Cup semi-finals – including the return of Romelu Lukaku to lead the attack.

He was benched in the 60th minute after struggling to make an impact.

Lukaku had a chance to prove himself, but didn’t rise to the challenge

“We got off to a good start but gave away the first goal again, which is impossible to do these things in consecutive matches, but we do,” the manager said.

“We came back twice and scored two more in the second half, unfortunately from the wrong side.

“It’s a level of errors, the number of errors in back-to-back games here at home, it’s impossible at that kind of level. You don’t see that.

“It’s just impossible, but we’re doing it right now and you can’t win football games like this.

Chelsea were poor in defense as they lost 4-2 to London rivals Arsenal

“It’s not about individual players. A defensive performance is a team performance and an offensive performance is a team performance.

“You need to have the right tactics, which is doubtful that I got that right, and you need the right team selection, again, it’s doubtful that I got that right.

“Secondly, it’s a game for players. They get all the praise when they do, when they’ve done it in the last three games.

“And they have to face the reality that it’s impossible to win games if you make so many mistakes of this caliber. It’s just impossible. I don’t see it in any other game but I see it now in consecutive games of our games and it has to stop.
