Thomas Tuchel confirms latest Chelsea squad amid Covid and injury battles with Brentford-worthy Jorginho

The Blues battled a coronavirus outbreak and had just four outfielders on the Wolves bench on Sunday.

Chelsea had pressured the Premier League to postpone the game but that request was turned down and they ended up drawing Molineux 0-0.

They are now preparing to face Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday and Thomas Tuchel has called on players from the academy to boost his numbers.

The German will be able to welcome Jorginho again, who missed the Wolves game as his Covid-19 test before that trip was a false positive.

Midfielder Baker, however, is now out of the game against the Bees because he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Trevoh Chalobah, who was injured at half-time against Wolves, is uncertain and Andreas Christensen is also likely to be out.

“Nobody came back from there except Jorginho because he tested negative so it was obviously a false positive. He’s back in training,” Tuchel said.

“Andreas Christensen is very skeptical due to an injury and so is Trevoh Chalobah.

“They (the academy players) trained with us yesterday and today. We brought them in for two training sessions, because it is necessary.

“When we brought them in, we detected that Lewis Baker is positive for Covid, so another player is missing. So we also take the risk of bringing in other players from the academy, who have it (Covid).

“This is the situation. Having a team with 13 or 14 players for a game is a problem, but not a big problem.

“We can do it and we can fight, but since the game we have Trevoh Chalobah injured. We have it in big doubts. We have N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic involved who were taking a huge, huge risk and now we’re paying for it.

“They can’t just start with five matches in two weeks or with three matches in one week, it’s just impossible. So the problem is going to get worse, the situation is going to get worse and we can’t let the players suffer because the other players are not there, it’s just impossible.

“We have to protect our players and protect health and that is why we appealed to the academy [players]. It’s no secret and we think we’re playing with them.
