Thomas Frank provides update on Ivan Toney as Brentford striker stretches against West Ham

Rentford will wait to assess Ivan Toney after he was stretched in Friday’s win over West Ham, with Thomas Frank hoping the star striker’s knee injury isn’t as bad as feared.
Toney opened the scoring in the 2-0 victory over David Moyes’ struggling Hammers at the London Stadium, taking his Premier League tally to 12 for the season.
However, the striker ended the night leaving the pitch on a stretcher after appearing to hit his knee on landing following a mid-air collision in the final minute.
The 26-year-old looked in considerable pain and Bees fans would fear the worst, but Frank said it was too early to assess the extent of the problem.
“Hope he’s okay,” Frank said. “Happy for the three points and another goal added to his goal tally.
“I don’t know exactly how he will be for the game against Liverpool in three days. It’s unlikely that Ivan will be replaced due to a hit or anything, so that’s a bit worrying.
“But I’ve also been in the game long enough to know that we have to assess him in the next couple of days. It could be nothing, it could be a bit worse, we don’t know.
“It’s never a good sign [when a player is stretchered off] but we don’t know enough.
Toney is also the subject of an ongoing FA investigation into alleged betting violations and, if found guilty, could face a ban.
