There’s a Giant Beer Festival in the Middle of an Indiana Corn Maze

BACK TO CVG LATER TONIGHT. 06:44, THE OFFICIAL END OF SUMMER IS IN HEAD AND IT WILL START TO FEEL LIKE AUTUMN. KELLY: THE LEAVES ARE STARTING TO CHANGE ON SOME TREES. KATIE DONOVAN IS HERE WITH WHEN WE SEE PIC COLORS. KATIE: WE’RE ALL WAITING FOR FALL AND THIS YEAR WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT LONGER THAN USUAL TO SEE FALL COLOR. TYPICALLY, OUR REGION SEES THIS TRANSITION IN MID-OCTOBER. THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS FALL FOLIAGE FORECAST HAS A VIBRANT PEAK OF COLOR JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN THIS YEAR. MANY THINGS HAVE TO HAPPEN AND PUT INTO PLACE FOR THE MOST VIBRANT REDS, ORANGES AND YELLOWS TO APPEAR, INCLUDING SPECIFIC WEATHER CONDITIONS. >> ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF THINGS CAN AFFECT FALL FOLIAGE, INCLUDING HEAT, RAIN, AMOUNT OF CLOUD COVER. JUST ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF VARIABLES. SO, FOR EXAMPLE, LIKE I SAID THIS YEAR IT’S GOING TO BE NICE AND HOT AND THERE’S A LOT OF RAIN, SO THAT’S WHAT WILL TRIGGER ALL THESE SUGAR INSIDE THESE LEAVES AND ALL THESE MAPLE AND SWEET GUMS WILL TRY TO GET THAT LAST LITTLE SUGAR LEFT FROM THESE LEAVES, PRODUCING THOSE ANTHOCYANINS IN THE LEAVES. KATIE SAYS IT’S — KATIE: IT’S A VERY DELICATE BALANCE AND IF ONE OR SOME OF THESE WEATHER ELEMENTS ARE OFF, IT CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEEING BRIGHT LEAVES AND BROWN LEAVES. HUGHES SAYS SUNNY DAYS WITH PLENTY OF LIGHT AND COOL, CRISP NIGHTS ALSO HELPS BRING OUT THAT AUTUMN GLOW. SOME OF THE BEST PLACES TO SEE FALL COLORS LOCALLY INCLUDE WOODLAND MOUND AND MIAMI WHITEWATER. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A LITTLE DRIVE, HUGHES RECOMMENDS CHECKING OUT STATE PARKS LIKE HUESTO WOODS AND CEASARS CREEK. ONCE WE HAVE REACHED PEAK COLOR, THE LEAVES WILL REMAIN ON THE TREES FOR A FEW WEEKS BEFORE FALLING OFF FOR THE COLD MONTHS OF LATE NOVEMBER. LAST YEAR WAS NOT A BIG COLOR HERE, SO LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME NICE RETURNS THIS YEAR. KELLY: ABSOLUTELY. PEOPLE ARE VERY EXCITED AND SUNDAY DRIVING BECOMES A REAL THING AS PEOPLE WALK ON THE BACK ROADS
