Nine years to the day after the assassination of journalists Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon, in Mali, RFI awarded the grant bearing their names to two journalists from French-speaking Africa: Esther Senpa Blaksmedi, journalist at CRTV Nord in Cameroon, and Henintsoa Tiana Miranto Rakotomalala, technician at Aceem Radio Madagascar.
As every year since 2014, the “Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon” scholarship has been awarded by France Médias Monde to two African journalists in memory of RFI journalists Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon murdered in Kidal, in northern Mali, on November 2 2013.
For this 2022 edition open to 25 French-speaking African countries and organized in Senegal, the scholarship was awarded to Esther Senpa Blaksmedi, journalist at CRTV Nord in Cameroon, and Henintsoa Tiana Miranto Rakotomalala, technician at Aceem Radio Madagascar. They win a 4-week training in Paris, fully supported, during the first quarter of 2023.
- Esther Senpa Blaksmedi, 25, from Cameroon, holds a diploma of higher technician in audiovisual arts and techniques from the Institute for training and conservation of audiovisual heritage of CRTV. She is currently a journalist at CRTV Nord. She did a report on children with congenital ichthyosis, a disease that affects the skin. The jury praised “the choice of a difficult and very human subject, treated with sensitivity and delicacy, and tinged with hope”.
- Henintsoa Tiana Miranto Rakotomalala, 26, from Madagascar, holds a Master’s degree in computer science from the National Center for Distance Learning in Madagascar. He is currently a technician at Aceem Radio Madagascar. His “all sound” report takes listeners on a discovery of the profession of sports educator and the training of children in football. The jury praised “a very good job on the atmosphere, a good technical mastery of the sound recording, a coherent construction from the beginning to the end of the report and the originality of the choice of the subject”.
