ABILENE, TX (KTAB/KRBC) – After a record first half, 2022 is on track to be Abilene’s hottest year on record, with at least 30 100-degree days already.
The 30 days were recorded on June 22, with June 23 likely marking the 31st day.
2011, which was the previous hottest year on record for Abilene, had only 17 100° days as of June 22, and the previous record for the most 100° days in the first half of the year. year had been established in 1953 with 18.
Thanks to the length of 100 days, Abilene has also set a number of weather records. At least 17 records or record high temperatures were recorded at Abilene Airport in May and June alone.
May 2022 was also the hottest May on record in Abilene, beating the previous record set in 1998 by more than 2° on average.
