Joe Biden thanked all law enforcement officials for their contributions to the defense of democracy on January 6 in remarks on the steps of the United States Capitol in honor of the fallen officers.

Speaking to the families of the deceased officers, he drew on his own losses and sorrows and said: “We know from personal experience that whenever there is a ceremony or memorial in honor of your husband or lost wife, son or daughter, it can spark that pride. , but also that terrible feeling like hearing the news for the first time.

“No parent should bury a child,” he said, adding it was like “losing part of his soul”.

Mr Biden also cited the funds allocated to law enforcement in the US bailout and said he is committed to investing in mental health resources in particular.

“You shouldn’t be the one to talk to someone from the edge of a roof; you should have professional help with you, ”he said.

In honor of Saturday’s service, the President issued a proclamation on Friday that in honor of all law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, and their families, all American flags should float at half mast.
