Tesco and M&S pledge a total of £150,000 to the sun quake appeal – while Daisy Jones, 8, makes a birthday donation

TWO of Britain’s biggest chain stores donated a total of £150,000 to the Sun’s Earthquake Appeal yesterday.
Tesco has pledged £100,000 and M&S £50,000 to the emergency fund.

All the money from our appeal for help is donated to the British Red Cross who provide relief on the ground.
Jason Tarry, CEO of Tesco UK and ROI, said: “Tesco fully supports this appeal and has pledged to donate £100,000 to support essential British Red Cross relief efforts.”
M&S CEO Stuart Machin said disaster was close to home, as the company has “many teams based in Turkey”.
The company also donated 5,000 thermals.
Meanwhile Caring Daisy Jones, eight, from Overton, Hants also did her part by donating £5 of her birthday money.
Daisy said: “Our teachers told us at school about the earthquake.
“I felt so sad and saw images on TV of affected children.
“I really wanted to do something to help.
“It was my birthday last month and I really wanted to give something away.
“I hope this helps the kids there.”
We ask readers who can spare something to help in the area, the Red Cross will make sure the money gets to those who need it quickly.

British Red Cross chief executive Mike Adamson said: “The scale of the destruction caused by these earthquakes has been devastating.
“The priority right now is to save people from the rubble.”
