The Democrat running for governor of Virginia versus a Republican backed by former President Donald Trump raised more than $ 100,000 in 24 hours after a fundraising email authored by Mary Trump, the niece of the ‘former president, was sent to supporters.

A campaign spokesperson for former Governor Terry McAuliffe, who is running to represent the state for a second time, confirmed the transport to The independent in an email, without providing the exact amount collected.

The email Ms. Trump wrote arrived in fan inboxes last Thursday at around 8:30 p.m. with a subject line referencing Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin, who simply said “He worships my uncle.”

Ms Trump went on to accuse Mr Youngkin in the email of agreeing to “everything my uncle stood for,” including spreading false allegations about the 2020 election.

“He said Donald Trump is a big part of why he is running, sold the ‘Big Lie’ that the 2020 election was somehow invalid, wants to bring the destruction of public education to Betsy DeVos in Virginia, and was approved by my uncle SIX TIMES, ”Ms. Trump wrote.

Mr Youngkin declined to answer in the GOP primary if he believes President Joe Biden was the rightful winner of the 2020 election, although he has since winning the Republican nomination and pivoted campaign to general election. He called the competition “certifiable fair” during a debate earlier this year.

“I have said over and over again that Joe Biden is our president,” Youngkin said during a debate against McAuliffe, before adding, “I wish he wasn’t.”

However, he moved forward on the issue and called for a more in-depth examination of voting machines in the state as well as regular audits of voting machines in the state (ignoring that Virginia already does this every year). .

By making such comments, he has sought to maintain his grip on the large part of the GOP base which refuses to recognize the 2020 election results and has endorsed the false allegations of fraud made by the former president.

Mr Trump himself rewarded Mr Youngkin for these remarks and recently issued a press release touting the Republican of Virginia’s request for audits that are already taking place.

Democrats have sought to clearly link Mr. Youngkin to Mr. Trump and by extension the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol in January and the former president’s continued efforts to sow misinformation about the 2020 election.

“Glenn Youngkin’s priorities are clear: He is running for governor to bring Donald Trump’s dangerous conspiracy theories to Virginia,” McAuliffe said earlier this month.

Polls showed McAuliffe had a slim lead heading into the November general election. The state has voted for Democrats at the presidential level every year since 2008, and currently has two Democratic senators.
