Taylor County waives some reconstruction costs in response to Mesquite Heat fire

TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – It has been four months since the Mesquite Heat Fire devastated nearly 11,000 acres of Taylor County land and destroyed up to 27 homes in two weeks. At a recent meeting of county commissioners, the county decided to waive permit fees for those who lost their homes to the fire.

Taylor County commissioners voted to waive the septic permit fee, which would cost someone about $210. But this waiver is only available to people who are rebuilding because of the fire.

In addition to this septic permit fee, the county also said it would waive the $25.00 development fee.

This fee waiver will not apply to individuals who have sold their property. New owners who might rebuild will have to pay full price.

At the meeting, the commissioners acknowledged they had a list of those who were rebuilding their homes after the Mesquite Heat fire and while the fee waivers won’t reduce expenses much, they said they hoped every small gesture could help.
