Taliban thank international community for pledges of aid

Taliban Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi thanked the international community for pledging hundreds of millions of euros in emergency aid to the country.

Muttaqi’s speech came after the United Nations had $ 1.2 billion in emergency pledges Monday.

According to the UN, four million Afghans face a “food emergency” and the majority live in rural areas where $ 36 million is urgently needed for the months to come.

“One billion dollars in aid has been pledged for Afghanistan. We thank all countries and organizations that pledge aid,” Muttaqi said at his first press conference.

“It was certainly a good deed and we welcome it. In addition to welcoming this commitment, we pledge that the Islamic Emirate will fully cooperate in providing assistance to those in need.

“Afghanistan is poor. He needs all the help the world can give, “Muttaqi said, promising that foreign aid would be distributed without corruption.
