Sixteen personalities, including environmentalists Yannick Jadot and Eric Piolle, as well as trade unions, denounce as “a Trojan horse of social regression” the possibility for companies to buy back RTT days from employees, adopted on July 22 at the Assembly. This measure “increases the bond of subordination between the employee and the employer, weakens the social dialogue in the company and deals an unprecedented blow to the 35 hours”, write the signatories of this forum published this Sunday in the JDD.
“Avoid dealing with the real subject of purchasing power”
“Today, the payment of RTT days (not taken by the employee, editor’s note) is only possible if a company or branch agreement signed by trade unions representing the majority of staff provides for it or if the absence of taking RTT is attributable to the employer”, is it recalled in this forum, who sees in this measure “the end of the framework and collective guarantees of working time”.
A promise from the right
The signatories of the forum believe that this provision “is mainly used to avoid dealing with the real subject of purchasing power: wage increases”. They also note that the “framed” possibility that exists today for a company to pay the RTT is subject to contributions, “thus contributing to the financing of social protection. The new provision, it, exempts the employer from the payment of employers’ contributions, which weakens this financing”.
This measure had been approved on July 22 by the deputies, the government having acceded to a request from the right to include a promise from its candidate for the Élysée Palace Valérie Pécresse. It is supposed to be time-limited, until December 31, 2023.
