Suspect dies after officer shoots in Odessa

ODESSA, TX (Nexstar) – Odessa police confirmed that a suspect died after an officer fired Thursday afternoon.

According to a statement, at around 3:36 p.m., officers responded to a call about an armed suspect at Ace Check Express in the 1300 block of East Eighth Street. When OPD arrived at the scene, the suspect escaped officers in a vehicle.

The suspect then walked around the shopping complex and eventually returned to 1305 E. 8th Street and entered the business with a gun.

As an officer approached the business, the suspect shot him. The officer fired back to end the threat of injury, according to the OPD.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The subject officer was not injured and has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.

The investigation was turned over to the Texas Rangers, as is every officer involved in the shooting.
