republican senator Rick Scott of Florida predicted that the Senate Majority Leader chuck schumerDN.Y., will whip Senate Democrats behind a ‘radical liberal with extremist views’ to replace the incumbent Supreme Court Judge Stephen Breyer.

Scott, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Conference (NRSC), made the prediction in a press release Wednesday after Breyer’s retirement was revealed.

“Democrats know they will lose a majority in the Senate in 2022,” Scott wrote. “I predict that Chuck Schumer and whoever leads the White House will force all Democrats to obey and walk the plank in favor of a radical liberal with extremist views.”

Fox News confirmed Breyer’s upcoming retirement at the end of the Supreme Court’s term earlier this summer with a source familiar with the justice system.

Breyer, who is 83, has been the subject of much speculation about his retirement. Liberal activists were calling for the justices to retire shortly after Biden’s inauguration. Sources close to Breyer, however, said the judge made the decision on his own terms and was not expelled.

Breyer was nominated by former President Bill Clinton, a Democrat. Breyer’s replacement will need to be confirmed by the Senate, which is currently split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, with Democrats technically holding the majority as Vice President Harris can sever ties.

Schumer said Wednesday that Breyer’s replacement would be “confirmed by the entire US Senate with deliberate speed.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Wednesday that the White House would not comment, at least at this time, on Breyer’s resignation.

Breyer’s retirement is a boon for progressives, who are likely to push for a candidate closer to their ideology.
